Episode 219 Losing It With David

As many of my loyal listeners have heard on my show over the years I have had a goal of losing some weight. I have been able to maintain for sometime now and would like to get to my goal of 175 lbs. I have decided to get some guests on the show to talk about their stories and about their successes in losing weight. I hope that if this a goal for you that you will take the time to listen and do what it takes to help you reach your goals.

    Nice of you to tackle a delicate topic. I come from a family of fatties. It’s difficult to make these changes. As a child of fatties, I had vowed not to become “them”…but, alas, I have over the years. As a parent, I had vowed not to pass “that” onto them. But I’m afraid I’m not doing to well in that department either. I’m like your sister…I salt my salt. I, literally, go through an entire carton of Morton salt a month. Do I know it’s bad for me? Yes. Can I stop it? No. I’ve tried. For many of us it’s going to take a diagnosis like David’s to jolt us into doing something about it. Yeah, I want to be there for my kids for a long, long time. But it’s so much easier to stop at What-A-Burger on the way home from school at 830 in the evening after working 8 hours earlier in the day than it is to go home and boil rice and steam some broccoli. Where are we supposed to find the extra time in the day to DO IT!?! I refuse to even step on a scale anymore just because it’s easier to live in denial.

    When I texted you earlier I meant David, not Tim hehe, I’ve been catching up on shows. You miss a lot when you’re out for a whole week! I like this one, you offered a bunch of good tips. I’ve got a lot too, being a self-proclaimed health nut helps. And my mom did Weight Watchers right before I went off to college, so I learned a lot of good life style changes that helped keep the pounds off!

I have just started the process of trying to lose some weight and I really got alot out of your and David’s discussion. Thank you for taking on this subject, I know there are probably alot of us out there listening to you that are trying to lose weight and it sure can discouraging.     What a great idea for a show! We all know that a lot of people are struggling with their weight, and you guys offered some practical tips for dealing with that struggle, as well as some realistic reasons why it’s important to try. I’m looking forward to future installments.

    Great advice and good show guys. I’ve gone through this also. At my heaviest I was between 250-260. Honestly I just got so disgusted with myself I quit stepping on the scale. I do know I was up to a size 42 waist. Let me tell you, a grown man crying in the fitting room is not pretty. I always joked I was built like a “box”. 32″ -32″, had worn that size forever.

    I’m down to about 197 now and can fit into 34″ pants again. I’ll spare you the long story but the secret to my success was “I changed jobs”. Nothing like getting out of a pressure cooker to let you know how bad it really was. With that in mind (Tom I know you’re hearing me) keep letting everyone know that there may be external and internal (emotional) reasons for the weight. You touched on it here but I honestly feel that a lot of people don’t realize this.

    Once again, great show and thank you for keeping my company. It’s always great to be able to take your friends to work!

    P.S. Freddy, Try ordering the onion rings and putting them on your sandwich at What-a-Burger. Oh my GOD! (of course not too often and only with the appropriate supervision)
